RSPCA Cambridge Fun Dog Show 2012

Saturday 7th July: Great Shelford Recreation Ground

Our 2012 fun dog show will be held on Saturday 7th July in Great Shelford village as part of the Shelford Feast activities.

Keep watching this page for updates.

We're planning a variety of fun activity classes, including one for Best Rescue dog or bitch. Registration for classes will start at 11.30 am., and registrations for each individual class will close 15 minutes before the start of that class.

Provisional programme of classes (times are approximate)

12.00 pm Best Child Handler

12.25 pm Best Veteran 8 years or older

12.50 pm Most mismatched pair (2 dogs or dog and handler)

1.15 pm Dog with best trick

Break for lunch

2.25 pm Dog Judge wants to take home

2.50 pm Best Rescue Dog

3.15 pm Dog with best cared-for coat

3.40 pm Overall best in show

In addition to the show-ring classes there will be various side-shows, including "Temptation Alley" (dog best at ignoring some interesting distractions) and "Fastest Recall", also a chance to view photos of RSPCA dogs and cats in need of homes.

We hope to organise another microchipping event. Why not bring your dog along and get them chipped for just £10? This gives you the peace of mind of knowing your dog is permanently registered on the PetLog database and can be speedily returned to you if they should stray and raises additional valuable funds for the branch.

Please don't bring cats or any other animals because of the risk that they might be frightened and run off.

Attractions

  • Tombola - 30 pence a go or 4 tries for a pound
  • Microchipping - £10
  • Raffle

Volunteers needed!

Dog shows need lots of helpers as there's much more to do than you might think. Roles we need to fill include:

  • "Runners" to take class entry details from the registration desk to the judges.
  • Registration desk volunteers to take entry money and book dogs and handlers into the right classes.
  • Helpers to set up and take down the show arena and stands.
  • Rosette clerk to see that the judges have the correct rosettes and other prizes to hand.
  • Before the day we need people to help with publicity: making and distributing posters etc. to local vets and other places where dog owners are to be found.
  • Helpers to run stalls, tombola etc. and generally brandish collection boxes at people.
  • Anyone with a large car or other vehicle suitable for transporting tables from Cambridge.

Before the event

Could you distribute fliers or put up a poster? If you can, please email info@rspca-cambridge.org.uk,

If you would like to help, please email info@rspca-cambridge.org.uk or call in at our main charity shop at 61 Burleigh Street, Cambridge on a Sunday afternoon.

In the weeks immediately before the show we will be having some extra planning meetings. These will probably be at the shop but in the evening.

The Shelford Feast events take place on Great Shelford Recreation Ground, off Woollard's lane. Directions.
