We are a branch of the RSPCA raising money locally to support our animal welfare work. Our branch is run by a committee of locally elected volunteers who are responsible for the management and administration of the branch’s affairs.
Our main activities are:
- Caring for and rehoming animals in need who are brought to us by our local RSPCA Inspectors.
- Providing treatment for sick and injured stray animals.
- A small animal clinic for owners who are unable to afford the full cost of veterinary treatment.
How you can help
Local branch animal welfare services depend entirely on voluntary income and fundraising activities carried out locally and nationally. There is no National Health Service for animals and the RSPCA does not receive automatic funding. We need £2,500 a month to keep our animal clinic running and another £2,000 per month to pay for boarding and care of animals waiting for new homes.
All RSPCA local branches are separate charities affiliated to the national RSPCA, which provides us with a basic grant annually. But the branch is responsible for raising the rest of the funds needed to provide local services. We pay an annual contribution to the Regional Fund, which is used to support projects that benefit all Eastern Region branches. Everything else we raise is spent locally.
We desperately need more support through donations or volunteering, as we are unable to provide the range of services that we could several years ago, including emergency support for pet owners who cannot afford vet fees.
Those in receipt of state benefits and may struggle with vet bills should register with our clinic. Veterinary charges at the clinic are roughly one third that of private vets.
